⁣Future of farming: AI-enabled Robot flexes new dexterity skills Where will your next meal come from? You probably know, but millions of people do not. The food supply chain is facing a crisis. Population growth, labor shortages and centuries of over-farming and environmental abuse threaten one of our most basic needs. The issue of agriculture sustainability is a people problem. But it might be the robots that save humanity. 1. FarmWise (AI based Farming Robots Built for Farmers) FarmWise builds smart and autonomous robots to solve the problem of weeds in agriculture, saving farmers time and money, and providing their consumers with healthier products. Work with the best engineers in their field, from Computer Vision to Robotics and mechanical engineering. Bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-life products by testing your work on the field, literally. Have a real impact by solving the burning issues that farming is facing while building the new paradigm for the future of food production. - Vision Technology : A suite of sensors allows our robots to perceive a wide range of information about each plant. We use that information together with state-of-the-art learning algorithms to know what’s best for this particular plant at this particular time. - Robotic Hardware : Data alone won’t be sufficient to solve farmers’ desperate need for better processes. ➡ http://farmwise.io/ • Headquarters : San Francisco, California • Contact : contact@farmwise.io ● 2. Root AI Root AI is a research company aiming to create intelligent robots that will help growers build the farms of the future. Root AI is proud to introduce the Virgo harvesting robot. To learn more about how autonomous harvesting is transforming the agricultural industry, ➡ https://root-ai.com 👉• https://www.cnbc.com/2019/05/11/root-... 👉• https://medium.com/inside-pjc/robotic... ● 3. TerraSentia Cross a John Deere with a Roomba, and You Get This Crop-Monitoring Robot. Farms are a hotbed for automation. Robots, drones, and artificial intelligence have been assisting in agriculture for years and 2017 showed they could farm an acre and a half of barley, from planting to tending and harvesting, without a human stepping foot on the field. TerraSentia travels under the canopy autonomously using only LiDAR based navigation. TerraSentia platform: unique under-canopy data collection, autonomous navigation, and machine-vision based analytics. ➡ https://www.earthsense.co ● 4. Vegebot - Cambridge Univ. Machine Learning Helps Robot Harvest Lettuce for the First Time. The robot is not near a commercial stage but instead has been developed to pioneer new computer vision and engineering processes for future agricultural outcomes. Crops such as potatoes and wheat have been harvested mechanically at scale for decades, but many other crops have to date resisted automation. Iceberg lettuce is one such crop. Although it is the most common type of lettuce grown in the UK, iceberg is easily damaged and grows relatively flat to the ground, presenting a challenge for robotic harvesters. The ‘Vegebot’, developed by a team at the University of Cambridge, was initially trained to recognise and harvest iceberg lettuce in a lab setting. It has now been successfully tested in a variety of field conditions in cooperation with G’s Growers, a local fruit and vegetable co-operative. ➡ https://www.cam.ac.uk/research/news/r... 👉• PDF : https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/e... ● 5. Blue River Technology Computer vision, machine learning and robotics for agriculture. Blue River Technology, a pioneer in the use of computer vision and robotics for agriculture. Founded in 2011 by two Stanford University Alumni, Blue River Technology is developing an alternative to chemical intensive agriculture, which is both expensive and hazardous to the environment. With breakthrough computer vision techniques for identifying weeds and selectively killing unwanted plants, Blue River Technology’s equipment is significantly more efficient than traditional methods of weed elimination. Its automated solution is particularly well-suited. ➡ http://bluerivert.com #farming #robot #ai

5 AI-Enabled Farming Robots | Future of Farming
Copyright ⓒ TopTechTopic
License: Creative Commons Attribution license (reuse allowed)
Thumbnail Photo ffmpeg auto screenshot from video
Audio: Real or Ambient Sound

⁣This video tells the story of Sireesha - one of the thousands of women and men farmers in Andhra Pradesh, India, practicing agroecology in Farmer Field Schools facilitated by the Andhra Pradesh Community managed Natural Farming Programme and FAO. Through agroecology and FFS, Sireesha and her family improved their incomes; consume healthy and local food and sell vegetables produced without pesticides to their local community. As FFS trainer, Sireesha encourages other farmers to adopt Natural Farming by testing it and experimenting by themselves the positive results. Agroecology is a holistic and integrated approach that applies ecological and social principles to design and manage sustainable agriculture and food systems. Farmer Field School (FFS) has been one of the most successful approach developed and promoted by FAO over the last 30 years, empowering farmers to become better decision makers in their own farming systems.
Practical field exercises using direct observation, discussion and decision-making encourage learning-by¬doing.

Agroecological farmers in India: Sireesha’s story
Copyright ⓒFood and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
License: Creative Commons Attribution license (reuse allowed)
Thumbnail Photo ffmpeg auto screenshot from video
Audio: Real or Ambient Sound

⁣Is it possible to grow food in the cold at -30C? In the Arctic, Longyearbyen is the home to a little over 2000 inhabitants. To feed the transient workers that come and go with the seasons, as well as the long-term locals, most of its food is imported and waste exported. Known for its harsh temperatures and strong winds, Farming in the arctic is extremely difficult—let alone sustainably. But, it’s definitely possible. We traveled to the Arctic to see Benjamin Vidmar, the co-founder of Polar Permacultures, who grows his own microgreens and other vegetables in his Longyearbyen greenhouse dome.
⁣Thesis Gold is a led by a dynamic group of resource sector professionals who have a track record of success in mineral exploration. The Company is focused in the prolific Golden Horseshoe of British Columbia where it is defining and developing the substantial resource potential of the Ranch Project. Ranch Project The Ranch Property covers 178 km2 of highly prospective rocks in the northeastern region of the prolific metal-endowed Stikine Terrane, British Columbia, Canada. Magmatic events in Stikine during the Late Triassic and Early Jurassic were the driving source for the development of mineralizing porphyry and epithermal systems. On both the east and west sides of the Bowser Basin the same magmatic and mineralizing events are recognized (Logan and Mihalynuk, 2014), forming an arch of gold and polymetallic mineralization; which is depicted herein as the 'Golden Horseshoe' which includes the Golden Triangle.

Thesis Gold (TSX.V: TAU): Advancing High-Grade Potential in the Golden Horseshoe of Northern BC
Copyright ⓒBusiness Television
License: Creative Commons Attribution license (reuse allowed)
Thumbnail Photo ffmpeg auto screenshot from video
Audio: Real or Ambient Sound

⁣http://www.fao.org/policy-support This session explored how governance approaches reshape agrifood systems by centering the voices of those often excluded from policymaking. In Ecuador, combining a national strategy and grassroots roundtables has contributed to empowering rural women to co-create agricultural policies that reflect their needs and realities. Ghana’s Green Label certification scheme showcases how food governance standards and labeling can incentivize sustainable practices while giving smallholder farmers a stronger voice in the market. In Mexico, the process leading to the General Law on Adequate and Sustainable Food demonstrates how citizen participation can help shape legal reforms that strengthen the right to food and empower diverse social groups.

Shifting the Balance of Power: Elevating Voices in Agrifood Decision-Making
Copyright ⓒFood and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
License: Creative Commons Attribution license (reuse allowed)
Thumbnail Photo ffmpeg auto screenshot from video
Audio: Real or Ambient Sound

⁣With the endless list of challenges smallholder farmers face to sustain their income, it is time to shift their mindsets from producers to better managing their farms toward profitable businesses. FAO’s farm business schools tackle the surrounding challenges by supporting farmers through shifting the farmers’ mindset from production only to assessing market needs as an entry point to select which crops to grow and when and where to sell them; in brief to be market oriented.

Changing farmer mindsets with FAO farm business schools
Copyright ⓒFood and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
License: Creative Commons Attribution license (reuse allowed)
Thumbnail Photo ffmpeg auto screenshot from video
Music: song Savannah Sunshine | Artist: Dan Henig | Album: Savannah Sunshine
Audio: Real or Ambient Sound
